Toonami Reveals 2014 Schedule: Space Dandy, Shippuden Premiere

Earlier today, Toonami‘s official Tumblr page posted their schedule for January 2014. Granted, not much will change after the month of movies they’re showing, but there are two crucial and surprising changes and additions that will be made starting Jan. 4, 2014.

On that day, “A day that will be long remembered,” as they so glamorously put it on the announcement, the first ever Japanese anime show to get an English dub aired on television simultaneously with its initial Japanese language run will be aired. The show, titled “Space Dandy,” is a new anime with the creative team behind “Cowboy Bebop.”

According to Anime News Network,

“Space Dandy is a dandy in space! This dreamy adventurer with a to-die-for pompadour travels across the galaxy in search of aliens no one has ever laid eyes on. Each new species he discovers earns him a hefty reward, but this dandy has to be quick on his feet because it’s first come – first served! Accompanied by his sidekicks, a rundown robot named QT and Meow the cat-looking space alien, Dandy bravely explores unknown worlds inhabited by a variety of aliens. Join the best dressed alien hunter in all of space and time as he embarks on an adventure that ends at the edge of the universe!”

Next up in surprising details, Jan. 4, 2014 will also bring “Naruto: Shippuden” to the Toonami block. Why is it surprising? Because it was previously thought that “Shippuden” was still licensed by the Disney Channel, and like “Dragon Ball Z” in the case of Nickelodeon, would be unairable on the action cartoons block. However, these concerns can now be put to rest, as it has been confirmed that “Naruto: Shippuden” will take over the 12:30 a.m. time slot.
